Our Team

Julie Angerhofer, PhD, MPH

Julie is passionate about improving health care delivery in partnership with people who provide and receive health care. She applies a mixed methods approach to her work, with both qualitative and statistical methods to inform implementation evaluations with a goal of optimizing care delivery and improving clinical practice effectiveness and patient outcomes.

Julie has received grants from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to support implementation and evaluation of suicide prevention practices in health care. She routinely collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to co-design intervention implementation strategies via user-centered design and community-based participatory research approaches.

Julie received a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Columbia University, as well as a MPH and PhD in Health Services Research from the University of Washington School of Public Health, where she continues to serve as an Affiliate Assistant Professor teaching and mentoring.  

Fun fact: Julie recently started rowing with a team on Lake Washington at 5:30 a.m. Julie hates waking up that early but loves to see the sun rise. 

Jennifer M. Boggs, PhD, MSW

Dr. Boggs’ research mission is to develop and test effective programs to prevent suicide and violence while promoting mental well-being that are designed to work in real-world care settings for broad populations at risk. She has an affinity for mixed methodologies and co-design approaches that test empirical questions informed by patients, clinicians, and leader constituents. Dr. Boggs relies heavily on models from implementation science for adapting and implementing new interventions in health systems. She has served as a PI, Site PI, or Co-I on 10 awards from NIMH, AFSP, CDC, NIDA, and has 65+ peer reviewed articles.

Dr. Boggs received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Indiana University with a minor in business, a Master of Social Work from the University of Denver with concentrations in animal assisted approaches and marriage and family therapy, and a Doctorate in Health Services Research from the University of Colorado, with training in epidemiology and health economics.

Fun facts: Jenn recently started rock-climbing with her kids. She really enjoys the partnership and watching her kids' confidence light up. It’s an awesome workout and a fun adrenaline rush when you look down!

Maricela Cruz, PhD

Maricela is a biostatistician passionate about conducting public health research with a specific focus on improving the health of disenfranchised communities. Her research centers on developing flexible and robust statistical methods to evaluate healthcare interventions, particularly using electronic health records, to inform clinical and public health practices. She specializes in analytic methods for pre-post longitudinal correlated data and has expertise in developing and evaluating prediction models. She collaborates on several projects aiming to improve care for people with a history of suicidal ideation and on projects designing and evaluating health care interventions, such as clinical decision support systems for at-risk encounters. Maricela obtained her PhD in statistics from the University of California Irvine in 2019. She is an affiliate assistant professor in biostatistics at the University of Washington.

Fun facts: Maricela enjoys hula hooping marathons—she can keep a hoop spinning easily for a half hour, whether around her waist, her feet, or even her arms.

Simran Gill, MIDS

Simran is a Data Scientist on the National Social Health Practice team, bringing over four years of experience working with social health data. She specializes in generating insights that deepen understanding of member populations that support strategies to enhance support and care delivery. Her work also includes conducting impact analyses to assess how programs and interventions influence health outcomes.

Simran holds a Masters of Information and Data Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from California State University, Northridge.

Fun fact: Simran loves going to estate sales.
 

Glenn Kent Goodrich, MS Applied Math

Glenn has over 28 years’ experience in health care analytics and 26 in health care research.  Glenn has been with Kaiser Permanente for over 15 years and has done work both as a data specialist and biostatistician. His areas of expertise are SAS programming and statistical methods such as logistic regression, survival analysis, Monte-Carlo simulations, and more recently text mining health care notes for various applications.  

He earned his BS in Mathematics at Metropolitan State University of Denver (formerly Metropolitan State College of Denver) and his MS in applied math with a statistical concentration at the University of Colorado at Denver.

Fun facts: Glen follows division II basketball (mostly Metro State), the Denver Nuggets, and the Denver Broncos (in that order of favoritism).

Erika Holden, BA

Erika has over 20 years of experience working in research and evaluation, conducting data collection and analysis using mixed methods designs and a collective approach. She is interested in public health outcomes achieved using CBPR (Community Based Participatory Research) and qualitative approaches. Her ability to connect with delivery system leaders as well as patients puts her in a strong collaborative position for implementing new and advantageous approaches to improve health for KP members.

She has a background in teaching and holds a BA in Anthropology from University of Colorado and a TESOL certification for teaching English as a Second Language from Seattle University.

Fun facts: Erika loves adventuring in nature either hiking, camping or paddleboarding, preferably all 3!

Andrea "Annie" Hoopes, MD, MPH

Annie is an adolescent medicine physician and health systems researcher. Her research focuses on using innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve adolescent and young adult health and healthcare.  She most enjoys projects that apply qualitative and human-centered design research methods, and involve collaborators and community partners passionate about using research as a tool for system and policy change.  Annie earned her MD from Ohio State University and completed pediatrics residency, adolescent medicine fellowship, and MPH training at University of Washington. She completed additional training in learning health system science as a CATALyST K12 scholar at Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute.

Fun facts:  While Annie still maintains her motorcycle license, she currently is most frequently spotted hauling her 3 little kids on a cargo bike or in the family minivan. (Many helmets and snacks are involved)

Elena "Noon" Kuo, PhD, MPH

Noon has a long-standing passion for health education and addressing inequities in access, education, and outcomes for marginalized communities.  she has been a part of the FHPP team for several years and has a passion for firearm injury and suicide prevention rooted in lived experience and a desire to address this under-resourced public health problem.

In addition to this work, she evaluates projects through Center for Community health and Evaluation (cche.org), from healthcare tech innovations to school-based health education programs. She earned her MPH and PhD from the University of Washington’s public health epidemiology program and her BS from Emory University.

Fun facts: Noon has a passion for outdoor gardening and enjoys observing the natural world, particularly along our MNW beaches.
 

LeeAnn Quintana, MSW

LeeAnn is a project manager at the Institute for Health Research at Kaiser Permanente Colorado, where she brings together her background in social work, organizational leadership, and community practice to strengthen how care is delivered across the system. Her experience spans program evaluation, population health surveillance, and clinical research trials, giving her a broad perspective on what drives meaningful improvement. She is motivated by a clear purpose: ensuring Kaiser Permanente members receive the highest‑quality, most patient‑centered care possible. Known for her collaborative leadership and steady commitment to operational excellence, she helps teams translate ideas into measurable impact.

Fun fact: I am a foodie who’s just as at home on a sunny beach as on a snowy mountain.  

Megan Rogers, MA, MSW, LCSW

Megan has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at the Institute for Health Research at Kaiser Permanente Colorado since 2016. She primarily works as a clinical interventionist for the IHR’s behavioral health studies and is a Care Navigator for the BIRCH program. Prior to joining the IHR, Megan had worked in a variety of settings including home-based trauma therapy with youth and their families, community-based gang prevention and group trauma work with teens, and at an inpatient adult psychiatric hospital. In addition, Megan has had a private practice providing individual therapy to adults since 2011.

Megan received her BA in Russian Literature and Psychology from Sarah Lawrence College, a Masters in Criminology from the University of Toronto, and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland.

Fun facts: Megan is an animal lover, music enthusiast, and bookworm. She spends her free time hiking, traveling, teaching yoga, and making a mess in the kitchen.

Juanita Trejo, MPH, PMP

Juanita has a passion for increasing access to healthcare, making healthcare systems better fit the needs of patients and providers, advancing mental health, addressing social needs that impact health outcomes, and taking a collaborative approach to research.

She earned her BS from the University of California, Merced, her MPH at the University of Arizona, and obtained a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Juanita has extensive experience in mixed methods research and program evaluation related to mental health and suicide prevention, social determinants of health, caregivers, diabetes, food systems, health literacy, health systems, and USA/Mexico border health. 

Fun facts: Juanita enjoys wheel thrown pottery, baking, traveling, and being active.

Rebecca Ziebell, BS

Rebecca has over 20 years of data wrangling experience. Since joining KPWHRI in 2013, she has served in lead programming roles on multisite research collaborations, developing particular expertise in the data needs of colorectal cancer and suicide risk prediction studies. She previously worked as a public health analyst with the CDC’s National HIV Surveillance System.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Go Heels).

Fun facts: Rebecca loves animals and volunteers as a remote camera operator for Explore.org’s network of live nature cams.
